Dorrigo business houses will participate in a new look Christmas window competition designed to brighten the town and attract more visitors.
Key words for window designs will be: vintage, chic, stylish, different and nostalgic.
Blow-up Santa Clauses and Rudolph with his red nose will take a back seat to more thoughtful presentations:
- period or vintage layouts
- use of unusual materials and
- a more creative approach in expressing a Christmas spirit.
The competition is being organised by Spruce up Dorrigo (SpUD) a subcommittee of the Dorrigo Chamber of Commerce.
“We have been greatly encouraged by the interest shown by businesspeople,” a SpUd spokesperson said today.
“The Chamber will offer prize money of $200 and all local residents are invited to vote for the window that best meets the theme.
“Something chic or vintage, something that responds to the nostalgia of Christmas past; a window that really engages the viewer.
“Four voting locations will be set up in Dorrigo: at I.G.A., Spar, Dorrigo Pharmacy and Dorrigo Post Office.
“Voting will be from November 23-29.
“Voting sheets will be available at these four locations. Each person is to select the window they feel best reflects the theme.
“The winner will be announced during Christmas in the Clouds on December 3.
“We are looking at a different approach to window displays this year.
“We hope this will make Dorrigo a destination for visitors in the weeks leading to Christmas.”
