A small group of Dorrigo residents is again inviting locals living on their own to enjoy a scrumptious Christmas lunch. It’s a no strings attached affair – the meal is free (there is a donation box for those who wish to contribute) and there will be no sales pitch, message or lecture.

Last Christmas more than 40 people accepted the invitation

“It’s by the community, for people in the community,” one organiser said.

“And it’s especially for those who are alone on Christmas Day, who find travel or cooking difficult or are simply short on food. Last year, many of our guests were recently widowed men and women.

“The atmosphere will be bright and welcoming, dinner will be cooked and served by a small group of local women and our guests won’t be asked to do the dishes!

“For the curious, we are serving two courses with mince pies and chocolates washed down with tea or coffee. “And…. this year we will have a beautiful, locally made, Christmas cake.

“Lunch begins at noon on Christmas Day in the Anglican Church Hall, Kurrajong Street, Dorrigo and bookings are essential.

Booking please to Christine on 66571507 or Chris on 66571664 before December 24. Please note: our festivities will be alcohol free.

“The dinner is not in competition with district restaurants but meant for people who, otherwise, will be alone and perhaps lonely, at Christmas. We are all volunteers and gratefully acknowledge the generous support of Dorrigo stores and businesses.”
