The annual Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition is on again!
10 AM – 5 PM, Thursday 13 to Sunday 23 April 2017
Opening Night: 7.30 PM, Wednesday 12 April
Dorrigo Community Hall, Hickory Street, Dorrigo
Artists’ entry forms must be received by 31 March.
Organized by the Arts Council of The Dorrigo, the CMAE is a showcase for the outstanding artworks made by our gifted artists and artisans living on the Dorrigo Plateau (2453 post code). The exhibition includes: painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, glassware, etchings, woodwork, textiles, jewellery, and photography.
For 2017, the theme is Ahead in the Clouds. Artists, please note we’re looking for innovative responses to the theme, not pictures of heads amidst fluffy white clouds. Envisage what’s ahead for us on the Plateau, or show us what you especially love (or dislike) about living here: imagine our future and paint where we’re heading, or show us how the Plateau is ahead of the game, or lose yourself in a Dorrigo mist, or reach for a starry nebula. How you interpret the words of the theme can be as creative as your imagination!
There will also be a Youth Art Exhibition, open to all artists aged between 15 and 21 living in the 2453 postcode. Two one-day workshops with Pamela Denise, supported by a grant from Bellingen Shire, will be held to encourage any interested youth to develop work for the Youth Art Exhibition (whether working collaboratively or individually). Please check the Arts Council’s website for more information.
Another feature of the 2017 exhibition will be the popular Shoebox Sculpture competition. Everyone is encouraged to produce a sculpture of a size that will fit into a shoebox, and the quirkier the sculpture the better! The sculptures can be made from any materials: whatever inspires your imagination. The purpose is to have fun and to let your creative juices flow. The judging will be by People’s Choice, and a $100 prize will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.
