The Dorrigo Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition

EASTER 2016

Dorrigo Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition

10am – 4pm, Thur 24 March to Sat 2 April

Dorrigo Community Hall, Hickory Street, Dorrigo

The Arts Council of the Dorrigo Inc. will again be presenting the annual Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition (CMAE) over nine days at Easter in the Dorrigo Community Hall. This wonderful community event has been held annually for 26 years. In previous years the exhibition has attracted up to 2,000 visitors, many of whom are visitors from outside the Dorrigo Plateau area.

The annual CMAE is a wonderful presentation of a diverse range of artistic works created by local artists and craft people living on the Dorrigo Plateau. The works exhibited include: painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, woodworking, fabric craft, jewellery and photography. Amateur artists are particularly encouraged to exhibit as it gives them an excellent opportunity to participate in an open exhibition. The CMAE also attracts local professional artists to display and sell their work.

To be held concurrently with this year’s CMAE , will be a “Youth Art Exhibition” arranged by local young artists. This exhibition will present the contemporary, “edgy” art of young people who have great creative abilities and unbridled enthusiasm. The exhibition will provide a great opportunity for young artists to present their art works which may otherwise stay hidden in bedrooms and sketch books. The exhibition space will allow the young artists to display their creative works among the art of other people their age and give them a ”voice” on how they interpret the world around them.

Another planned feature for this year’s exhibition will be a “Shoebox Sculpture” competition. Everyone with a creative imagination is encouraged to produce a sculpture of a size that will fit into a shoebox, the “quirkier” the sculpture the better! Perhaps they could be made from a wide range of materials, be they wood, paper, welded or soldered metal, fabric, stone, glass, discarded scraps, found items or whatever is in the creator’s imagination. The purpose of the competition is to have fun and to encourage people in the community of all ages to let their creative juices flow. The judging will be “People’s Choice” and an appropriate prize awarded at the end of the exhibition.

Entry Forms for this year’s CMAE and the Youth Art Exhibition will be available from the Dorrigo Library, the Dorrigo Tourist Information Centre and Food Angel Café from Monday 1st February, 2016. Entry Forms must be completed and returned with entry fees applicable, either to the Dorrigo Library, the Dorrigo Tourist Information Centre or by mail to PO Box 450, Dorrigo, by Friday 4th March, 2016. You can also download the CMAE Entry Form 2016 here. For more information about the Youth Art Exhibition click here and for the Youth Art Exhibition Entry Form click here.
