Impressionist Landscapes
- 2 days Sat 27th / Sun 28th September
Just as an impressionist painter uses small dabs of paint, we will use small pieces of fused fabric to create our landscape. Students will use one of their own images to create a quilt top. Perspective and other basic design principles will be discussed. Techniques and tips for successful fusing will ensure the best results, for translating your image into a fibre landscape. Finishing your quilt and quilting designs will also be covered.

In this very comprehensive workshop, Lorraine will share all her secrets of turning a design into a Mosaic pattern. It is a fun class with students completing their design by the second day. You will learn tips and techniques to achieve Choice of one of three designs – Dragonfly, Bird or Butterfly. Finished size 60cm x 80cm.

Fused Art Quilt –

Fused appliqué, which is one of the methods Lorraine uses in her prize-winning quilts. In this fun and relaxing class students will make a quilt top using one of the three designs provided by the tutor. You will learn tips and techniques to achieve perfect fusible appliqué. You will be shown how to finish and enhance the quilt. Finished size 56cm x 72cm. All skill levels -no sewing machine required.

Beginner Machine Quilting Techniques

A beginner workshop covering grids, curves, flowers, feathers and stippling, all the designs you are likely to use on a traditional quilt. No machine quilting experience is necessary.
This practical workshop covers all you need to know about Machine Quilting-using both the walking-foot for straight lines and the darning foot for free-motion machine quilting.
The first day covers most of the practical know-how of machine quilting and the second day is spent quilting a small quilt.
No machine quilting experience is necessary. |

Playing with background Fillers 1 day Mon 29th Sept
The whole day is spent quilting many different background-filling designs with free-motion machine quilting, and others based on a grid to build a reference sample for future use. This is a day of play and a good way to practice free-motion machine quilting and build up your skills.

Book of Memories 2 days Sat 27th / Sun 28th Sept
Some might call this scrap booking for the fabric artist. It is however an excellent exercise allowing your creativity to blossom. This is your chance to take photos and memorabilia and compile a unique memory cloth book using new and innovative techniques combined with many traditional favourites. Students will work with photo to fabric transfer; decorate with simple methods of adding colour like block printing and stamping along with easy painted finishes and methods of distressing, bonding and gilding. Your book may be a personal album to store the memories of a special family member or friend, a travel journal or maybe a journal, documenting an interest i.e. botany or yachting or even a child’s activity book.

Embellished Box & Book Cover 2 days Mon 29th / Tue 30th Sept
Create your own luxurious treasure chest and small book cover using some of those interesting scrappy bits of fabrics and lace that you have been saving for something special. As well as learning 3 D box making techniques you will have the opportunity to play with bonding, free motion embroidery, explore many ways of adding glitz and glamour to your textiles through the addition of simple painted finishes, gilding and much, much more. These 3 D box making and embellishing techniques can be later applied to other projects such as book covers, mirrors and picture frames.
Essential Workshop Fee- $30 this will cover paints, gilding products, glues, magnetic catches, some fabrics, trims and motifs.

My Little Journal 1 day Wed 1st Oct
Everyone needs a creative journal in which to jot down ideas and document interesting details while out and about. Learn how to embellish a journal cover for a notebook that is the perfect size to travel wherever you go. The journal will feature a raw edge appliquéd motif, embellished with free motion machine embroidery and a simple but affective beaded edge. The wrapping cord is made using creative embroidery techniques again embellished with beading.
Optional Basic Kit - $45 These will include all fabrics, an A5 journal, beads and vliesofix.
You will still need to bring threads and equipment.

Painting with Fabrics and Threads 2 Days Mon 29th / Tue 30th Sept
If you have a sense of fun and adventure than in this workshop you will learn to develop your own design for an art quilt or other inspirational piece. Working from your own inspirational photos or sketches, and learning to translate these into fibre pieces. Make a picture using Caroline’s favourite technique of mixing fabrics like paint and sewing creative new textural surfaced fabrics. You will experiment to create exciting new colours with different fabrics, water-soluble fabric and free machine embroidery techniques. Learn the same techniques that Caroline used to create these inspirational quilts.

From a set of strips sewn together you can design and create your own masterpiece. The quilt could be a Coloursplash, Bargello, Curves from strips or Take 6.
All quilts are made by simple strip piecing patchwork technique that can be used to create exciting and spectacular designs from a range of colours or shades, which produce patterns via a gradual colour value change. Some preparation is required prior to the workshop. A great workshop, which is easier than it, looks.
