Dorrigo - Ebor - Wollomombi Gorge - Hillgrove - Dorrigo
Take the Armidale Road out to the little village of Ebor. 1km past the town you come to the right-hand turn-off to the falls. Park your car and view the Upper Falls from the viewing platform then walk the 600 meters along the escarpment to view the Lower and Upper Falls - this makes a great photo. From this viewing platform you will be looking left over the thrilling wilderness area of Guy Fawkes National Park - so named because it was discivered by Guy Fawkes on the 5. November. Back on the Armidale Road continue on for 40km till you see the sign to Wollomombi Gorge on the left. You will drive across someone's property but don't be alarmed - after 2km you will see the entrance to Oxley Wild River National Park. Wollomombi Gorge has one of the best picnic areas and delightful walking tracks to get the best views of the 2 waterfalls that plummet 600 meters to the narrow gorge floor. They are not large falls for this is not a high rainfall area. The very adventurous can clamber down a steep path to the bottom - but this is a day's journey there and back. However you can swim at the bottom so there is some reward for your labours. Rejoin the Armidale Road for another 10km towards Armidale and you will see the turnoff to the left to the now almost ghost town of Hillgrove, formely a bustling mining town. You will see restord evidence of the old days and you can browse around the craft shops. Return home via Ebor and FussPots coffee shop for lunch or afternoon tea.
